Steve’s Camp at Horizon Farms Raises over $400,000 at the Annual Gala
The mission of Steve’s Camp at Horizon Farms (www.stevescamp.org) is to empower young people to realize their potential through a unique camp experience. “At Horizon Farms we introduce campers to healthy living, environmental awareness, and leadership development through an array of activities such as cooking, yoga, horseback riding, hands-on farm work, ecosystem workshops, and dialogue groups.”
Steve’s Camp was founded by Steven Kessner, the son of a Bronx taxi driver, who has provided an outlet for inner-city children to experience more than the streets of NYC can provide for them. Philanthropist, Steve Kessner, purchased a farm in 2008 in Livingston Manor, NY for the exclusive purpose of developing a program to assist inner-city NYC youth in reaching their true potential in life.
“These terrific kids do not truly realize what they are capable of. The environment in which they are raised can be extremely difficult. Some of these kids have never been outside of the city. Most have never been told that they can accomplish anything in life. That’s what Steve’s Camp is all about. Campers learn more about themselves than anything else. They are given the freedom to express themselves in a beautiful and inspiring environment that we have created in Livingston Manor.” -Steve Kessner
The 2014 Annual Gala was held at the Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers in New York City. Three hundred supporters of Steve’s Camp enjoyed an amazing, beautiful, and heartfelt evening overlooking the Hudson River. The honoree of the evening was Tiger 21, an exclusive investment club, of which Steve Kessner is a member. Tiger 21 has been a proud supporter of Steve’s Camp. Michael Sonnefeldt, Founder of Tiger 21, received the honoree award and presented the audience with a moving speech about helping our youth achieve their goals. Mr. Sonnefeldt also praised Steve Kessner and the Kessner family, including Adam Kessner and Cheryl Kessner, who are members of the board of directors of Steve’s Camp, for providing such an amazing program for the city’s youth.
